Distribution Operations

AYEDAŞ carries out its Distribution Operations meticulously in order to provide sustainable and high-quality electricity in the regions located within its area of activity.

Grid Operations

Fault, Maintenance & Repair

AYEDAŞ Distribution Operations units are located in the core of operation centres distributed throughout the area of responsibility. These units aim to ensure energy continuity by rapidly solving the faults they detect in the low and high voltage grids and lighting systems through the notifications coming from the customers or through scheduled maintenance works. AYEDAŞ conducts its support activities in a systematic and planned manner through its Fault, Repair & Maintenance teams in order to provide continuous and high-quality electricity to its customers.

AYEDAŞ is responsible for keeping the distribution system in the order to provide high-quality and continuous electricity energy to the people who receive services from the company, except the factors of force majeure defined in the regulation, special force majeure found in the license and scheduled outages.

Our customers are informed about the scheduled outages at least 48 hours before the outage via our website or visual press organisations.

Grid

AYEDAŞ aims to prevent potential faults and minimise the impact of faults on the customers through scheduled maintenance works on the low and high voltage energy transmission lines as part of Scheduled Grid Maintenance. In addition, alternative feeding regimes are created for the continuity of electricity supply.

Relay Coordination System project was initiated in order to successfully coordinate protection between the centres located in the responsibility area of the company. The purpose of this project is to prevent any fault in the grid to be reflected on the main feeding sources and to reduce the number of customers who are affected by the faults by 2 to 10 times.

The operations related to the compensation of the damages given to AYEDAŞ facilities by third persons are followed up. The operations related to the compensation of damages on customers' utilities and devices originating from the operation, animal deaths and the damages occurring in the field fires are conducted meticulously.

SCADA

Full and timely supply of electricity as one of the main requirements of today's social and economic life and particularly enabling most economic utilisation of existing power resources are of great importance to ensure a faster development process in Turkey. Big investment costs, advanced technology and qualified human resources are required to meet increasing electrical energy demands. The losses originating from the utilisation of out of spec materials or inability to benefit from technology as much as possible are paid by the consumer while these also create great dangers in terms of safety of life and property. Minimising these risks and losses and optimising the level of energy consumption have always been the essential objectives for AYEDAŞ. The most effective way to achieve these objectives is to establish automation systems in all electricity facilities where electricity is generated, transmitted, distributed and consumed to control and command the system according to the optimum scenario as well as to monitor and track all energy parameters.

The latest developments in computer and communication technologies enabled automation of electricity distribution systems to be technically and economically feasible. Automation of distribution ensures more reliable, continuous and high-quality electricity supply since it enables remote monitoring and fast and effective control of the grid. This kind of technologies started to be used in the operation of distribution systems in our country after the privatisations of electricity distribution.

Processes involve collection and monitoring of data about the system as well as remote controlling of the system through tasks such as switching on, switching off and installation. Thanks to the automation systems that enable fault detection, continuous auditing is made possible by collecting data from instruments and control elements distributed across the system. Operation of the system is controlled and automatically conducted via operator displays at the command centre while operators have the necessary control and command functions on the computer.

GIS (Geographical Information System)

For Electricity Distribution Companies, GIS provides the functions of recording, associating and managing geographical and verbal information belonging to the assets which constitute the electricity grid (transformer, line, etc.) and to the events related with these assets (maintenance, outage, etc.). This is an important information and decision support system that enables development of alternative strategies by inquiring and analysing these data.

GIS provides various benefits for Electricity Distribution Companies such as preventing dependence on individual information by systematically recording inventories of the grid and providing access to up-to-date information from a single source as well as other facilities for operation and planning processes.

  • Correct records and reporting with reliable and up-to-date data,
  • Planning for labour, stocks, maintenance and renewal through correct and effective analyses,
  • Correct and fast detection of fault source,
  • Resolving faults in much shorter time due to savings from time and costs spent to find the fault source thanks to fast detection,
  • Correctly identifying and registering the customers affected by the outages,
  • Guiding the call centre and providing fast and correct feedbacks to the customers,

are main benefits provided for distribution companies by GIS.

Accordingly; ESRI based CBS software installations, data model adaptation designed in line with the needs and works to move existing data onto GEONIS database were completed for AYEDAŞ. Desktop and web applications were activated and GIS data input and updates as well as data management, inquiry and reports are carried out over this system.

Other works are conducted alongside with these in order to improve existing GIS data such as verifying HV grid data with field and office works (HV grid connection model verification), measuring HV (poles and lines) and LV electricity grid connection from the field and registering these (creating LV grid connection model) and attaching standard number plates to the grid inventories.

Lighting

AYEDAŞ regularly conducts its scheduled maintenance and improvement activities for the lighting systems which are one of the most important elements in the cities in terms of beauty and aesthetics. In addition to the extensive lighting maintenance campaigns conducted every year, lighting systems are reviewed at certain intervals and equipment which have completed their economic lives are replaced while others are maintained. Scheduled maintenance works and repair activities on notification are conducted by our lighting teams with the purpose of keeping lighting system located in the Anatolian Side Electricity Distribution region in order and remedying the deficiencies.

New lighting facilities are added to the system in line with the decisions taken by lighting commission in accordance with the investment plan approved by EMRA. AYEDAŞ also performs checks on measurement circuits and meters belonging to parks, gardens, walking paths, historical and archaeological sites which have been included in the general lighting systems as per Electricity Market Law No. 6446 and consumptions of which are supplied by the Ministry of Energy. We track and resolve lighting faults, notifications and complaints as well as the applications made through 186 Call centre and website in written form and on the phone in our system. R&D works related to the installation of smart lighting facilities are conducted as part of smart grids project. Lighting facilities conforming to the historical and cultural structure of cities are built at locations where erecting poles are not deemed appropriate in case the relevant decisions are taken by the general lighting commissions established in cities under the presidency of the governor or deputy governor.
