Acting in line with pioneering technologies and people-focused working principles, Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, carried out Disaster and Emergency Wireless Telecommunication System Project, which will ensure communication critical for uninterrupted energy during disasters, such as earthquake, fire and flood.
Implementing sustainable projects in line with the vision of ‘A Better Future for All’, Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, sustain their efforts to increase the level of disaster preparedness with the ‘Disaster and Emergency Wireless Telecommunication System’ technology used during the earthquakes of Kahramanmaraş, which occurred on February 6, 2023, also called as the ‘disaster of the century’.
The project, which was launched only a few years prior to Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and actively used during the earthquakes, proved that the employees of the Enerjisa Distribution Companies are able to communicate uninterruptedly even during the most challenging disasters, resulting in a powerful communication solution for situations when GSM infrastructure does not function properly.
Enerjisa Distribution Companies not only consolidated their communication infrastructure inventory extensively as part of the project but also established a telecommunication system which can be used country-wide thanks to the regional frequency allocations.
The project enabled critical systems to be included in the inventory, including ‘Mobile Telecommunication and Charging Stations’ which can generate their own energy via generators and solar panels with the ability of charging 50 phones and 50 radios at once to serve survivors of disasters, ‘Mobile Telecommunication Stations’ featuring mobile structures and telescopic towers, ‘Tower Type Voice Radio Relays’ which strengthen field communication with their wide coverage areas, and Fixed Operator Radios which support operational telecommunication.
Operator Computers were also put into operation which operate even at the farthest points in order to provide uninterrupted and high-quality energy in the disaster area to accommodate for the communication requirements of field teams, with features such as Backpack Type Radios, Hand Radios, Vehicle Radio Boxes supporting mobility, and simultaneous location tracking, voice telecommunication recording, emergency call and sending messages.
Commenting on the Disaster Telecommunication system technology used by Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş, and Toroslar EDAŞ, Oğuzhan Özsürekci, Managing Director of Enerjisa Distribution Companies , stated: “We supplied power in a very short period of time as soon as the earthquakes occurred on February 6, using all our capabilities, particularly our strong and safe communication skills, at the critical points such as hospitals, field kitchens, and meeting places. As a company surviving the earthquakes occurred, we enabled coordination among our hundreds of personnel on the field in order to meet the communication between our employees and their families and their energy requirements thanks to our ‘Disaster Telecommunication System’. We are continuously developing this project of ours which set an example in the electricity distribution industry as a successful practice in times of disasters, and we keep it ready at hand in order to be used across the country during any possible disasters. We continue to increase our level of disaster preparedness with the steps we take while pioneering in our sector with our strong and safe communication skills we gained for uninterrupted energy.”
